Cirl Bunting
re-introduction
In the summer of 2006 we were asked
by the RSPB to supply supplementary food for the
re-introduction project. Birds were released into the wild,
somewhere on the Cornish coast, from a rearing project
undertaken by experts from Paignton Zoo. Canary seed and White
Millet both grown here on Southdown Farm were supplied as
these 2 seeds supply the nutrition needed by the birds through
the seasons. Our own large population of Cirls can be seen in
these crop stubble fields feeding in flocks along with Yellow
hammer and Linnets. Find out
more. http://www.rspb.org.uk/england/southwest/farming/cirlbuntings/reintroduction.asp
We also supply the local farmers and
conservation organisations here in South Devon with our seeds
for the Winter Feeding Project for the Cirl bunting. To find
out about this, click on the link below.

Plym Bridge
Peregrines
Soar Mill seeds
sponsor this well loved site with food and feeders allowing
passing walkers and cyclists to stop and see not just the
Peregrines but the many woodland birds also. We have been
asked by the National Trust to carry on feeding these birds
during the winter as it has become a popular sight for all.
Please follow the link to watch the Peregrines and learn about
the site. www.plym-peregrines.co.uk/index.html
Hygiene and
Trichomonas
There has been an outbreak of a disease
that mainly affects our Greenfinches.
The Trichomonas parasite is passed on from seeds that
have been contaminated by birds feeding habits. Use this link
to find out more:

We supply a spray that will not only
kill this disease but a whole range of others that affect our
garden birds. Look in FEATURED ITEMS on the right hand quick
links and go to Latest Offers to see. |
