Southdown Farm Events

Our NEW showroom is open we have, at last, moved out of our tatty, leaky and rapidly falling down portacabin and moved into a plush new office. Now we can at last show you our full range of wild bird products without tripping over the buckets on the floor to catch the rain!! Please come along and take a look for yourselves, hours are 9am to 5pm Mon - Fri.

Farm Walks  for 2008 two farm walks will go ahead in the spring. The Devon Wildlife Trust will have a walk on the 13th April starting at 2pm, meeting in the farm yard which will be sign posted. We would hope to see plenty of spring migrants such as Wheatear and Swallow and if we are lucky maybe a singing Whitethroat or two.

On the 22nd June a walk will take place in conjunction with South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to help celebrate the year of Food and Farming. We should see all our resident summer visitors who will be well into the breeding season. On the farm, growing crops will be well advanced and we will be pointing out how growing seeds for Soar Mill Seeds helps in our conservation policies . Also if the weather is good you will have a great walk.

New for 2007 in conjunction with the Soar Mill Cove hotel I will be taking a group of hotel guests on a weekend guided walk around our farm and the Kingsbridge estuary. Called "Dream Breaks" this 4 day break will be a leisurely guided walk around our glorious Devon countryside while enjoying the four star hospitality of this renowned hotel.

For more information please visit www.soarmillcove.co.uk and look for Special Breaks.

We hosted a farm walk on the 24th September for the Devon Wildlife Trust, their members were there but ALL were most welcome.

We started the 2 hour walk by watching one of the juvenile Barn Owls that has taken to roosting in our shed, completely oblivious to the crowd he sat there dozing. We were blessed with warm sunny weather although a little windy, Cirl buntings, hunting Kestrels and soaring Buzzards were all seen. Good numbers of butterflies too with Clouded yellows and a Coma amongst the more common.

If you are interested in organising a farm walk here at Southdown please get in touch with us for details. info@soarmillseeds.co.uk
