The Minibug Butterfly House is an educational insect habitat that attracts butterflies to the garden for learning, study, or simply for the benefits of plant pollination.

It can be used as both a feeder to encourage butterflies into the garden and an over-wintering habitat. The central removable cassette offers a hibernation/refuge space. During the height of summer the cassette can be replaced with the feeding sponge instead. Wildlife World Butterfly Food or sugar mix can be used to feed the butterflies from the sponge as well as the feeding cups.

The MiniBug Butterfly House is supplied in a gift box and makes an ideal present for children or grown up wildlife enthusiasts and gardeners.

Siting

Site in a visible warm place ideally to catch the morning sun. The Minibug Butterfly House can be hung from a fence, tree or similar or can be stood on a flat surface.

Monitoring & Inspection

Charging the feeding sponge and bowls with liquid food is of particular value in early spring and late summer when there may be less natural nectar available for butterflies and other nectar-feeding pollinators such as bumble bees.

Re-charge feed sponge and bowls every couple of days, or sooner during hot weather. The central cassette can be carefully inspected during the winter months, taking care not to dislodge any hibernating butterflies.

Maintenance

This product is manufactured from natural wood and does not require any treatments - sponges can be replaced every season if required.

What Species Might Use My Habitat?

This habitat may be used by small tortoiseshell, peacock and comma butterflies. The feeder may help bumble bees survive in early spring .

Additional Information

There are 4 different insect habitats to collect in the minibug range.

These products are for wild creatures and as such, you should not expect immediate habitation. We suggest you carefully read the supplied instructions for siting and provide this product in a suitable habitat for the target species. The product can then be re-visited 6 - 12 months later, or in the appropriate season, to see if it is being used.

If after 24 months the product has not been used, it may be worth choosing an alternative location to site it and/or look to see what improvements you can make to provide a suitable environment for your target species (flowers, woodpiles, rough areas of garden etc)

Because many species of creature are constantly seeking refuge and safe nesting sites, you may find that an unexpected species is using your product - this is part of nature and all species should be welcomed as part of your wildlife garden.
