The MBB2 is one of a collection of real, functioning wildlife habitats specifically designed for children and to attract beneficial insects to the garden for learning, study, or simply for the benefits of plant pollination and pest control.

The MiniBug Bug Box is a natural habitat for ladybirds and other beneficial insects. A mini version of the larger Bug Box (BB2) constructed from solid FSC birch logs and oak, larch, or similar timber for durability. They provide over-wintering habitats for insects like Ladybirds (natural aphid predators) and a home for solitary bees (non-aggressive garden pollinators) and other beneficial insects during the summer. Offering a variety of potential habitats, the top section is made of variable sized canes and the lower of bored solid timber.

The MiniBug Bug Box is supplied in a gift box and makes an ideal present for children or grown up wildlife enthusiasts and gardeners.

Siting

These attractive dual chamber insect habitats can be hung from trees, pergolas, hanging brackets, or near ponds or scented plants. Site in a sheltered spot close to vegetation using back hanger, preferably in a location to catch the morning sun.

Monitoring & Inspection

Check the habitat in spring and summer for signs of use. If there is evidence that it has been used, leave any cells in the habitat as this may be eggs/larvae. These will remain in the habitat through the winter and new insects will emerge in the spring.

Maintenance

This product is manufactured from natural durable timber and does not require any coatings. If it has been used, you may wish to protect the occupants from frost by covering product or taking into shed. Do not take into a heated environment as cells/pupae may develop/emerge prematurely.

A wide variety of invertebrates and other insects including solitary bees, ladybirds, spiders etc.

Additional Information

There are 4 different insect habitats to collect in the minibug range.

These products are for wild creatures and as such, you should not expect immediate habitation. We suggest you carefully read the supplied instructions for siting and provide this product in a suitable habitat for the target species. The product can then be re-visited 6 - 12 months later, or in the appropriate season, to see if it is being used.

If after 24 months the product has not been used, it may be worth choosing an alternative location to site it and/or look to see what improvements you can make to provide a suitable environment for your target species (flowers, woodpiles, rough areas of garden etc)

Because many species of creature are constantly seeking refuge and safe nesting sites, you may find that an unexpected species is using your product - this is part of nature and all species should be welcomed as part of your wildlife garden
